How to Deal with Stress As the Holidays Near
It’s November, which means it is National Stress Awareness Month. It can be stressful at any time of the year to deal with stress, but as the holidays near and you are working hard on holiday shopping or traveling for family gatherings, there may seem like an increased sense of pressure. There are things that you can do to help manage your stress levels this month and throughout the rest of the year!
1) Plan: The more prepared you are for upcoming events (having gifts purchased or wrapped early), the less work will pile up before those events happen. This will lead to a lower overall level of stress so that when those moments come around they won’t feel quite as intense.
2) Breathe deeply: When facing an uncomfortable situation stop to take a minute to breathe, mentally check in with yourself, and give yourself a 5-second pep talk. This will help you to prepare yourself for what is ahead and take a second to calm your nerves.
3) Practice self-care: Making sure to take time for yourself by getting enough sleep, eating healthy, and exercising will help you feel refreshed and ready to face each day.
4) Practice mindfulness: Being aware of your thoughts and feelings as they happen will help you stay calm.
5) Have a medical provider you have direct access to for fast support. At Today Telemedicine you can email or text your medical provider 24/7 and make quick and easy same-day telemedicine for check-ins to keep your mental health in check!
6) Ask for help: Don’t try to do it all on your own; we are here and we can support you!
7) Be kind to yourself: If you miss a holiday party or fail to finish your shopping, it’s OK.
